Machine Description

The screw briquettor is a screw extruder with specially designed die and screw and a drive mechanism. The machine is a rugged piece of equipment with heavy duty body which ensures lesser vibrations.

The screw briquettor consists of an intake hopper that delivers the biomass into the feed chamber. The extrusion screw force feeds the biomass in the feed chamber into the preheated die.

The die is heated by three nos. high efficiency ceramic band heaters. The desired die temperature is preset and is controlled by an electronic temperature controller provided in the panel board.

The drive mechanism includes the main drive shaft that is mounted on heavy duty high quality taper roller bearings. The shaft is driven by an electric motor through a pulley. The pulley is designed to have a high moment of Inertia so that it may double as both a speed reduction cum transmission mechanism and a flywheel. The flywheel/pulley is driven by means of four "C117" V belts.

The electrical control panel includes an electrical starter for the main motor, a forward reverse switch for the main motor and digital temperature indicator cum controller for the heaters. The panel is also fitted with current and voltage indicators and indicating lamps.

As on date the following raw materials have been successfully briquetted by Screw type briquetting machines :

  • Rice husk
  • Ground nut Shell
  • Saw dust
The above raw materials may be briquetted individually or as a mixture of any of the above. However it is essential that the initial moisture cononet and size of biomass is less than 12% and 4mm respectively.

Manufacturing process

The dry raw material free from foreign matter (like iron pieces, stones, etc.) is fed into the hopper of the Screw Extruder.

From the hopper, the raw material flows into the compressing zone (screw extruder) where from it enters into the heating chamber (barrel).

The heating chamber is controlled thermostatically at a pre-set temperature. From the heating chamber the briquette is formed and extruded out continuously.

The process requires no binder or any other material. The above raw materials may be briquetted individually or as a mixture of any of the above. However it is essential that the initial moisture cononet and size of biomass is less than 12% and 4mm respectively.
